What's your motivation?

"The Method" or "method acting" was popularized by Lee Strasberg at The Actor's Studio and the Group Theatre in New York City in the 1940s and 50s.

The process was derived from
Konstantin Stanislavski's quest for "theatrical truth"--discovered in his teachings, writings, and acting at the Moscow Art Theater.

Strasberg's students included many of America's most famous actors of the 20th century, including Paul Newman, Al Pacino, James Dean, Dustin Hoffman, Marilyn Monroe, Robert DeNiro and many others.

The key question Method Actors ask themselves as they work through a scene is this: What's my motivation? The theory being, if an actor knows why, he/she can play the who, what, and how.

So this is what I want to know from you: why are you drawn to the theatre? Why do you want to create in the theatre? Why do you want to see theatre?

What's your motivation?

To make one person happy is my goal. To make a crowd happy is a dream.
To know that someone in the audience left happier than entered is pure bliss.
To let people escape from the toils of life is happiness.
To me, to do theatre is happiness.

Whenever I feel boring with my life, I always watch a movie. I just want to at least make someone smile, cry, angry, laugh, or any kind of emotional connection with me because I've made so many with characters in the past. I want to give someone that opportunity too even if its negative and they hate my character.

I guess acting gives me an excuse to be something totaly different than what I am. It's not really an escape from reality like what happens at a movie. It's more a way for me to change my reality and experiance something that's not me. The same goes with watching plays. There's something about watching people with such amazing control of themselves and their character. It just makes me happy.
